"A Snowfall of Butterflies"

We woke up this morning to a lot of snow. Thankfully we'd already made plans to visit the butterfly conservatory in Cambridge with Tim, Janice, Tessa and Willem so we got to experience a different kind of snowfall! (And I love how an actual butterfly was hanging out on the sign above, just above the "e" in "white.")
This was a special exhibit for the Christmas season with hundreds of white butterflies which weren't normally available. I enjoyed all the butterflies and between Dave and I, we took about a million pictures.

Rachel had a blast walking around, exploring.

Rachel also enjoyed hanging out with Tessa and trying to touch the butterflies. And she may have succeeded in that latter accomplishment a couple of times. That will teach you to land on an 18 month old, butterflies!

It was a lot of fun to be there with the Hedricks and we agreed that it was a perfect place to go when you have a ten year age gap between all the kids!
Tessa's flower headband was very attractive to all the butterflies and she had them land on her a couple of times.
There was a blue butterfly which was flying and I kept trying to get a picture of it. Eventually I gave up. Then Janice noticed Willem taking a picture of something and it was the elusive blue butterfly! They thought it would have been really funny if they had gotten home, looked at Willem's pictures and seen the blue butterfly pictures without me getting any. Thankfully I did get some.

Some more random butterfly pictures. The butterfly in the picture on the right had just come out of its cocoon and hadn't yet flown. Very new!
There were also other things to see like a cockroach, some different kinds of birds, and games on the iPhone! Ha ha ha!

Afterwards we had lunch at the cafe at the conservatory. Sadly, they had had a busy weekend and were sold out of a few food items but we all managed to find something to eat. If you are looking for a fun (and warm) thing to do on a snowy (or not snowy) day, I would highly suggest finding "a snowfall of butterflies."

  2. What a fun day trip! Seems so 'unseasonal' to think about butterflies in the winter...but so fun!

    1. Thanks! It was a lot of fun. And it's been great fun to take pictures with our new DSLR -- we just get much clearer pictures which I really like.

And sorry it took me awhile to respond to you. I was messing around with my comment format and couldn't reply to comments directly for awhile.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
