A Prayer Request And Project 366: Days 93 Through 99

I don't know if you remember or not but at the beginning of December we had an appointment for Sam about a minor health issue he has. We were hoping the issue would resolve without surgery but unfortunately the doctor determined surgery was required.

The surgery has been scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8am and will take about two hours. Thankfully either Dave or I will get to stay in the OR with Sam until he is put under and then one of us gets to be in the recovery room with him while he is waking up. I had visions of Sam walking away from us after we had said "good bye" and that was stressing me out.

If all goes well, we could be home by noon or shortly after. I realize that there are kids with way more serious health problems but, as a minister at our church told me, "Although this kind of surgery is routine for the doctors, it is not routine for you" and that exactly sums up my feelings. All this is to say that your prayers would be extra appreciated for Sam tomorrow morning.

(Also, as I've been reading more articles about our kids and what we post about them online, I asked Sam if I could post this and he gave his permission so that's a bit of an FYI-disclaimer.)

And now on with the Project 366 post...

April 2, 2016 -- Rachel just couldn't keep her eyes off "her street" in Montreal!
April 3, 2016 -- Rachel joined these women for a conversation during our exploration of Old Montreal.
April 4, 2016 -- Rachel enjoyed making icing with my aunt when we stopped to have lunch with her and my parents this day.
April 5, 2016 -- Sam loves reading anything about the Blue Jays!
April 6, 2016 -- A blurry picture of Sam's post-bath hair. Ha!
April 7, 2016 -- I had daffodils on my desk and coffee-hot chocolate in my mug while I tackled budget setting for work. They helped keep me motivated :)
April 8, 2016 -- I haven't done this intentionally but I've had a bunch (or three!) of tulips in my house since about December 28. This is a close up of the latest bouquet.

  1. Praying right now for Sam - and for you! Totally understand worrying about him being scared. I'm so glad you get to be there when he goes under! {Why didn't the gallbladder people let Ryan do that with his big chicken of a grown up wife???}

    1. Thank you so much Bekah. And yes, I've only had surgery twice as an adult but I so wish someone could have stayed with me the whole time. It's so unnerving.

  4. I will be praying for Sam!! Surgery is scary no matter how minor it is!! And Rachel's face in the icing picture is perfect. That's how I feel about icing, too!

  5. Best of luck to Sam! Aaron had ear tubes put in which is the most routine of routine surgeries possible (and literally a 5 min surgery), and I still bawled my eyes out over the idea of him going under anesthesia for surgery. It's scary no matter what so many prayers for both Sam and you!

  6. The old saying...it is minor surgery if it is for another person, it is major surgery if it is for you...
    Praying for you all.

  7. Thinking of you all! And it's so true - never minimize your own struggles because it DOES feel like a big deal to you. Even if there is someone going through worse it doesn't mean you don't have the right to feel the way you do! I know Sam will rock it (and you will too!).

  9. I am so very late, but I am so glad Sam is doing well from his surgery. Ugh, surgery of any kind scares me. I have never had any so far and am so very thankful. And of course, surgery on my kids is even scarier. They want to put Mattox under anesthesia to do a more thorough work up on his hearing loss and possibly put a tube in that ear for better drainage, and I am really nervous about it. Sigh. And I love that you asked Sam if you could post about this. I think I am posting way less about Evan these days because I don't want him to ever be embarrassed about anything I write. Of course, I do still want to cover the highlights of his life, but if it becomes a problem later, I can make those private I guess. So I am going to take a big ol' guess that your aunt is your mom's sister? They just look so much alike in that picture. Twins, maybe? Haha! And I still have major desk envy over your neat and organized little space as mine still looks like a bomb exploded. In my defense, I am still looking for a new storage system for our files so I have a whole pile of filing to do that just keeps getting bigger. Sigh. I did manage to go through Evan's school papers from last year and this year (yes, two years worth!!!) and purged a bunch. Now, I just need to get to his box in the garage so I can file those away. Haha!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
