A couple of weekends ago we headed a few hours out of town to visit our friends, Mike and Jen and their son, Will. We call our kids "The Impatient Triplets" because Sam was born first, in an unplanned homebirth that took 3 1/2 hours start to finish. Then Will was born in the car, on the two minute drive to the hospital. And then Rachel was born in a 12 minute labour. These kids were impatient to get going :)
We decided to visit on this specific Saturday because their region was holding a family fun day with all the service vehicles. And Sam and Rachel had firefighting duties to attend to!
Then they had to vacate the premises because the firefighters got an actual call and really had to vacate the premises. It was a little nuts!
So Sam and Rachel decided to grade some roads instead...When these three kids get their driver's licenses -- watch out!
They posed with Barkley The Tree and Pete The Pylon. Sam was sad that, since it was a regional event, the city's mascot of Sam The Safety Cone (who is absolutely different than Pete The Pylon!) wasn't there.
A picture similar to this one (with Barkley included) graced the region's Facebook page for awhile. Our kids are famous! Ha ha ha!!!
One event which was quite exciting was getting to ride a city bus through the bus wash. It was about a fifteen minute drive through the countryside to the bus wash facilities.
I liked these plows that various schools had come together to paint.
Then we headed over the the Emergency Management Services to have some more fun. First of all we discovered what can happen to you if you don't wear a seatbelt -- smushed like an egg.
And we got to check out the Ambulance Bus. This is a bus which has been retrofitted as an ambulance for major disasters. It can transport up to eight people at once.
The rest of the weekend was spent with me going to Mass with Jen, eating Thai food and ice cream sundaes, and supporting Donny as he was baptized on Sunday. Sadly, I have no pictures of any of this.
We had such a good time visiting with friends and look forward to hanging out again soon. However, I am not looking forward to the day that Sam, Rachel, and Will might actually be (legitimately) behind the wheels of some of these vehicles. Yikes.
I did not know those little tidbits about the Impatient Triplets! Though not fun in the moment, I'm sure, what fun stories! :) And what a fun day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun weekend with your friends! I love that you call the three kiddos the impatient trio. Sounds very fitting! Our town does something very similar called the Truck Touch. We missed out on it this year, but it's always a lot of fun. We have got to watch life flight take off, but never the fire fighters being called out. =)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I love community events like this. I know Sam the Mighty Machines fan always loves this chance to see some real ones. Sounds like a great weekend. We did some community stuff this weekend checking out our little town's farmer's market and exploring around the lake. I thought about you at the farmer's market and how much you would have loved it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI had no idea Sam was born at home. What a crazy story!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that ambulance bus. I had no idea things like that existed.
