When asked what my ideal family looked like I always said, "Two kids, a boy and a girl, two years apart, with a boy first because I always wanted an older brother." To be honest, a lot of these requirements stemmed from my Grade Ten self who, along with my best friend, had a crush on a Grade Twelve boy. We always figured that if one of us had an older brother who was friends with them, it would make dating these guys a whole lot easier. Ahhhh, Grade Ten self -- what did you know?
We didn't find out the gender with Sam, and although I would have been thrilled either way, I was so happy when Dave announced, "It's a boy. I think." (It was kind of dark and we were both in a little bit of shock.) And then two years later Rachel came along. And all my Grade Ten (family planning) dreams came true :)
My favourite thing about my two kids is watching how much they love each other. They are each other's best friends (for now) and I really hope it will continue that way. I love watching them play together, laugh together, and how much they love each other. I am so excited to watch how their relationship will change, and how it will stay the same, as they grow. And if Grade Twelve Sam will introduce Grade Ten Rachel to his friends!
I think I should give my Grade Ten self a little more credit. Maybe she knew this all along :)
