10 On The 10th: May 2021

Welcome to 10 on the 10th for May. I wasn't actually sure what I was going to take pictures of but then we decided to go for a forest walk, last minute, and I ended up taking over forty pictures! So instead of having not enough pictures, I really had to pick and choose which ones to show you.

I asked Sam to put away dishes and he just couldn't put down his book. I had to laugh because I've also been known to read and do something else so he comes by it naturally!

If you go back to my November 2020 "10 on the 10th" post (you can read it here), I mentioned that my bulbs might bloom in time for an April or May "10 on the 10th" post. Well, here are my mini tulips. Also, I didn't keep pictures of what any of the bulbs would look like so for the longest time, I didn't actually know what these flowers were! Hahaha! They close up every night so they're a little different than regular tulips.

Kind of at the last minute, we decided to eat an early supper and go for an evening forest walk. I loved all the different landscapes we saw.

I thought this flower was so interesting but I didn't know what it was. "It's a Pitcher Plant, I think," Sam piped up. He said he learned about them at school. Sam rarely shows an interest in plants, nor does he often volunteer what he's learned at school, so it was definitely a moment I want to remember. (And if it's not a Pitcher Plant, don't tell me because I want to trust Sam's knowledge.)

I was SO EXCITED to find trillium, our provincial flower, blooming!!! They only bloom for a few weeks and it can be hard to find them. We saw so many on this walk, including some red ones, that I could have shared 10 photos just of trillium for this post!

Sam and Rachel like stopping at this pond.

Part of this walk goes through a hilly field and it's such a change from the forest views. It was colder and windy out here though so we headed back into the woods fairly quickly.

We forced Sam and Rachel to run on ahead so Dave and I could have some time to talk. One thing with Covid, and numerous lock downs, is that Dave and I haven't had a date since last June. We NEVER get time to talk to each other anymore. It's really frustrating and we need to work on that.

More amazing forest views.

All those white flowers are trillium. I loved finding big patches of it like this.

And that was our May 2020 "10 on the 10th." It was a chilly day full of work but it ended with the most beautiful evening hike and the finding of trillium so it was a GREAT day!

  1. I know what you mean about not being able to talk to the spouse. Sometimes I just say...never mind, I'll tell you when they turn 18. ha ha!
What a nice walk in the woods. This looks fun. :)

  4. Whenever I am lacking for photos, I only have to take a walk to find material for these photo challenges. Going to put together a post tonight for photos I have taken on recent walks. The trillium is such a deep color. And Sam's pitcher plant seems aptly named to me!!

  6. Bulbs! My cousin gave us bulbs as a gift and promised that if we just shoved in the ground, they would grow. They have done so, very much so! But have not yet bloomed and we have no idea what they are going to look like. Yours are so pretty; I hope ours look like yours.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
