House Tour 2013: The Most Colourful Room In Our House

The house tour continues today with Sam's room, also known as "The Most Colourful Room In Our House." As you might remember, this room was originally a brownish-beige colour and so we asked Sam what colour he wanted his room. He promptly replied, "Green, red and blue." And so that's what we did.
I realized that as we put up Sam's wall decorations, that most of them are in the colours of green, red and blue so it became a lot less surprising that he had chosen those colours for his walls. Since Sam has all the drawers to store clothes in, he doesn't need a dresser.

About a week before Sam started school Janice gave us a Grade 1 workbook which they hadn't used. And Sam was hooked. However, Grade 1 is just a little above his Junior Kindergarten level. So for Sam's first day of school we bought him a Kindergarten workbook. Well, Sam spends hours working in it. It has about 300 pages and he's probably done half of them. He LOVES it. So the little table you see in the picture above (also from Tim and Janice!) has his workbook on it along with his beginning chapter books. In the drawer are his pencil crayons and pencil sharpener. I sometimes feel like Sam is growing up as I blink.
I still just love the bright pop of colour the drawers add to the white wall. It just really accents them!
Excuse the weird angle of this picture. I was lying on Sam's bed to try and get a lot of the room in it. Sam doesn't play in his room all that much anymore. We have a separate playroom downstairs and that is where most of his toys are. He also doesn't have large swaths of time to play anymore since school started and takes up the majority of his waking hours.

I really feel like this room marks the transition of Sam from preschooler to school age kid and reflects that quite well. And I hadn't realized that until I wrote this post so now I'm feeling sad and happy all at the same time. This is one of those moments when I wish I could freeze time. Since I can't however, I will enjoy Sam and the stage of childhood this represents. Hopefully, by the time he turns thirteen and wants to paint the walls neon green or black to reflect himself at that point, I'll be ready for it!

  5. What a fun space! Sam has great taste and picked great colors for his room. And yes, if you blink, it seems like you miss so much because they are growing up so fast. *Sigh*

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
