Evaluating February

It's time for another accountability check in on my New Year's resolutions. Here is what February looked like.

Books I read:

Remember -- Karen Kingsbury
Return -- Karen Kingsbury
After The War Is Over -- Jennifer Robson (The link is to the book review I wrote.)
Home Again -- Mariah Stewart
Almost Home -- Mariah Stewart
Hometown Girl -- Mariah Stewart
Home For The Summer -- Mariah Stewart
Cell -- Robin Cook
All That Matters -- Stef Ann Holm
A Discovery Of Witches -- Deborah Harkness
Fame -- Karen Kingsbury
Crossed -- Ally Condie
The Seduction Of The Crimson Rose -- Lauren Willig
Mercy Street -- Mariah Stewart

I ventured into new territory this month as I ran out of books to read in Mexico. So I "went to the library" (via the internet) and borrowed some e-books and read them on the iPad. This is not my favourite way to read, I have to say, but it was a pretty great way to get some more books when I couldn't just drop into the library.

New recipes I cooked:

Fresh Herb And Ricotta Stuffed Shells -- This recipe was really good. However, every single shell fell apart while I was cooking them so it ended up being a layered pasta dinner rather than stuffed shells. Also, this recipe took forever to make so I will save it for weekends from now on.

Black Bean Spinach Enchiladas -- These were really good. My only comment is that the filling made A TON so we ended up freezing about half of it for next time. I can't wait to make these again. It was also a quick recipe to make, unlike the shells.

What day am I at with Bible reading?

Unfortunately our one suitcase got lost on the way home from Mexico and it hasn't been returned to us. Sadly, my Bible is in there and I don't remember exactly what the last reading I did was. However, I know I am somewhere in Leviticus and I have a lot of catching up to do. Hopefully my suitcase is returned to me soon and I can get back on track.

What this month showed me though is that my Bible reading isn't as much of a daily routine as it needs to be yet so I have some work to do on that.

How many days did I drink enough water?

I stopped keeping track when I was in Mexico, but I'm pretty sure I drank at least two litres of water about twenty-five days this month. I'll keep working on this one, but I am definitely drinking more water than I was before I made this resolution.

What percentage of Sam's lunches were made at night?

I'm happy to report that 100% of Sam's lunches were made at night. (And thanks to Mexico we only had to make lunches about eight days this month! Yay!) We're still sticking with the system we figured out in January, but it's working for both of us.

Where are we at in Canada?

We got to Ontario. Manitoba would be coming up tomorrow but my Manitoba book is in my missing luggage :(

Running:
I didn't get out running at all before we left for Mexico, and I discovered that running on sand is really hard, but I did walk the length of the beach and back quite a few times (which my parents estimated to be about 5K). Our next to last day in Mexico I did actually jog the entire length of the beach (but not the return trip) and my calves are still sore today!

House cleaning:

I failed miserably at this goal. I cleaned the first week of February. The second week of February I was supposed to clean and spent way too much time working on preschool stuff and no time at all cleaning. Although we've been in Mexico since mid-February and I think Dave cleaned this past week so maybe not all is lost?! :)

Bun baking:
I did not bake buns this month. See above excuses reasons of preschool stress and Mexico.

So what this check in has shown me is that some of my goals have already positively impacted my life, while I need to better figure out how to fit other goals into my routines. March will be an interesting month because we are, once again, traveling for the majority of the month (#firstworldproblems), so I'm curious to see how my resolutions will hold up in the midst of all that!

  2. Good job on all the reading! I think, with all the travels, you can definitely cut yourself some slack on the others.

  3. Running on sand IS hard! But a good walk is also great for cardio and weight loss.

  5. Good job! We've been doing better about packing lunches at night too. That and laying out outfits at night is so helpful to getting ready in the morning.

  6. I'm definitely seeing quite a number of familiar books on this list!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
