Friday Favourite Moments 2026 #1

Last year I tried to document my favourite moments each week to remember the good. I stopped doing this about halfway through the year but I wanted to re-start it this year. There is good in every week, even the hard ones, and I think it's important to notice it. So here's my first batch of favourite moments from this past week.

1) Celebrating New Years

I loved the New Years Day brunch my parents made for us and it's always so special to toast to a great new year with prosecco!

2) Tulips!

I may not have as many bouquets as I usually do but I got the first of my tulips for the year on Sunday. Every time I walk by them, they make me smile.

3) The kids

Renovating is not easy. And pretty much our entire house is in chaos right now. Rachel became my and Dave's roommate on Monday night and she has just gone with the flow. Her mattress is on the floor, her clothes have been greatly condensed to fit in our closet, and she is just enjoying life.

The kids go to our neighbours' house, where my parents are currently living, and wash their lunch dishes, every day after school. And even though things are more than cozy, we just keep rolling along.

4) My parents

A huge part of the reason we keep rolling along is because of all the support from my parents. They cook us meals (and send us home with leftovers for lunches), my mom is doing our laundry, my dad has washed my lunch dishes a few times this week, they're letting us shower at their house, they went to Costco for us yesterday, my mom has shovelled our sidewalk -- my parents are the real rock stars of this renovation -- and these are just a few of the things they did to support us this past week.

5) Our construction company

Oh my word! Our construction company is the best. They have been so accommodating. They are doing their absolute best to support us living in our house during this time and making it as easy as possible. The other day, when they were demolishing the kitchen, they put up plastic sheeting to keep our dining room (a little more) dust free. Then we realized the only light switch for the dining room was behind the kitchen sheeting. No problem -- they cut a hole for us. Every time we run into an issue, they are so responsive and kind about it.

Turning on the dining room light (which is serving as our eating area and kitchen right now)

6) Using something new!!!

Because the main bathroom was demolished this week, our crew worked really hard to get the new powder room up and running so we could continue to have a sink and toilet in the house. It was so exciting to use something new!!! They've covered over the new flooring with cardboard to protect it, and there is no light yet in the powder room, but it's so fun to use something that's a result of the renovation.

7) Melting snow

I have been very excited the past few days that some of our snow/ice is starting to melt. I know we have more winter coming but the past couple of days have felt a little bit like spring and it's been exciting to chip away some of the snow/ice buildup from the stairs, sidewalks, and driveway.

So those are some of my favourite moments from this past week. Tell me something good about your week!

  2. I couldn't think of anything to post about today; I guess a summary of the good in my week might have been a good idea! I liked your list.

  3. What a great post! I know the pain of enduring construction all around you will be so worth it!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
