Currently: January 2026

It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for "Currently." Jenn at My Joyful Life has handed over the hosting reins to Amy at Coffee and Cocktails at the Casa. You can find Amy here. I'm so excited this link up is continuing as I really love it. Thank you Amy for continuing it and thank you to Jenn for hosting it so faithfully for a few years. And now, on with the prompts:

[Loving]

I am "loving" having my parents as our neighbours this month. They flew in on Christmas Eve and will be here for a few more weeks.

I'm also "loving" my new powder room floor! It's even better in person!!!

[Resolving]

I had a dentist appointment right before Christmas and I am "resolving" to brush and floss more. One trick I learned from a co-worker is to set an alarm on my phone to remember things. So at 8:13 every night my "electric toothbrush & floss" alarm goes off. Thus far I am on Day 8 of doing this. My dad said it takes 14 days to make something a habit so only six more days until this becomes routine! Hahaha!!!

I discovered last night that it's much harder to brush and floss properly without a mirror. And yes, they demolished the main bathroom yesterday so we're using the half-finished powder room. It has a working sink and toilet but no light and the walls aren't complete!

[Planning]

It's our church's Winter Retreat this weekend and Rachel and I are "planning" on "saunaing and snowing" like we did last year! I was inspired to try it by Jenn at My Joyful Life when she wrote about wanting to try it in Finland (read about it here). Rach and I had a lot of fun doing it so I'm packing my swimsuit, as well as my snow pants, again!

[Eating/Drinking]

Well, as you read above, my parents are our neighbours for a bit (normally they live three provinces away), and Mom and Dad are happy to cook for us while we're without a proper kitchen. So we've been "eating" very well! Mom and Dad made a lentil soup on Monday that is delicious! And tonight I think fried fish and baked beans are on the menu.

As for "drinking" -- well, now that we're back at school/work my mornings are no longer starting with coffee-hot chocolate, Kahlua, and whipped cream. They were lovely mornings while they lasted :)
Also, thanks to the kitchen being demolished earlier this week, I had to reduce my mug cupboard so I am "drinking" out of way fewer mug choices than I usually have access to. Below is my "mug corner" for the duration of the reno. So sad :(

[Watching/Reading]

Besides "watching" the daily changes in our house, I have been "watching" my January tulips!!! I may have fewer bouquets this year but I couldn't go without them completely!

Sadly, the renovation has been taking up the bulk of my mental energy so I haven't had much time for "reading" lately. I'm hoping that will change in a few weeks now that the bulk of the decisions/packing/condensing has happened and we're in the building phase.

So that's what's up with us "currently." It's a lot of renovation progress and being extra thankful for my parents this month, while trying to enjoy some of our January favourite traditions.

  1. I love your floor! I am going to need all the kitchen reno tips. It's going to stink but I plan to do a makeshift kitchen in the dining room and buy a new air fryer/toaster oven to use for meals.
I brush my teeth pretty early to keep myself from evening snacking and so I am not too tired. The only problem is my gummy magnesium I take right before bed. Then I have to brush again!

  3. That floor looks great! I always say I'll do better at brushing and flossing and then I don't!

  4. I spy a Blue Jays mug in that small collection! Have fun at your retreat, I did a roll in the snow and then back into the hot tub on New Year's Eve. Very invigorating!

  5. How wonderful to have your parents next door cooking while you are without a kitchen! I bet that is so nice to come to and they probably love helping out in that way too.

  6. It must be so hard living through all of this construction but you seem to be coping. It's nice to have your parents cooking meals. Take care and enjoy the rest of the week.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
