I was wracking my brain trying to figure out what to blog about. It's been a quiet week and I feel like a lot of my "regular" blog linkups happen at the end and beginning of the month. Then I remembered the Wednesday Hodgepodge with Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. You can find Joyce here. I've never linked up with the Hodgepodge before but some of the blogs I regularly read do so I thought I'd join in the fun today.
Generally speaking I've learned to say "I'm sorry and please forgive me." I've also learned to hold on to our car doors when it's really windy because one time, about ten years ago, the wind whipped one of car doors open as we were getting out and it dented the door and scratched the window and it was hard to open the window after that (it made a horrible scraping sound). Now, whenever it's windy, I always say, "HOLD ONTO YOUR DOOR."
2. Do you salt food while you're cooking or let diners add their own? What's a food you think must be salted? Do you like pepper?
Quite a few years ago, my mom told me she never adds salt when she's cooking so I stopped adding salt to my cooking. I let everyone add their own. The only thing I add salt to when cooking is when I'm making oven baked fries or oven roasted veggies. I don't like French Fries without salt. I never used to be a pepper person but in the past year I enjoy it more and more. I add it to our vegetable lasagna and my favourite kale salad.
In my opinion, popcorn always needs salt!!!
3. What was the last gathering you attended and what did you do there?
How do you define "gathering"? I attended Rachel's dance performance on Sunday. I attended church on Sunday. We attended synagogue last Saturday. Do any of those count as "gatherings"? If you mean a "specific group of people invited somewhere for a specific purpose" I would say it was my friend's dad's funeral which was by invitation only, in mid-March. The last "gathering" I attended for fun was probably my friend's Half Life Party in February. She was celebrating having lived half her life in the US and half her life in Canada. That was a super fun gathering!
4. Your favourite shade of purple? What's your favourite purple flower?
I am not a huge purple person. I've never really loved the colour purple and so don't have a favourite shade. It does make me laugh that one of my favourite summer skirts is actually a purple and black one which I bought when Rachel was two months old. In terms of purple flowers, my absolute favourite purple one is lilacs but I also really loved all the purple foxglove we saw on our Scotland hike last summer.
5. Share a favourite spring travel memory.
One of my favourite spring travel memories is our New York City trip in March 2022. It was our first trip out of the country since Covid started in March 2020 and we were just so happy to be going somewhere! We had so much fun on that trip!!!
We also went to see The Lion King and walked The High Line.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
WHY IS IT SO COLD?!?!?!? I'm more than ready for spring and our weather is not cooperating. Yesterday we had a windchill of -16C (3F) when I was walking to work. That is way too cold for early April. By Monday it's supposed to be a high of 16C (61F) which is much better for spring.
So this was fun for a Wednesday. I'm off to read some of the other blogs in this link up and hope for a warmer spring day today.
Popcorn definitely needs salt although I do like a mixture of sweet and salty together.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of a half-life party but it sounds like lots of fun.
I hope spring warms up for you soon, here in the UK we've had chilly mornings and warm afternoons.
All about the lilacs here too. NYC is always a fave- I think Spring is such a perfect time to visit too! I know - it is freezing here too- Spring needs to get here STAT
ReplyDeleteIt's quite cold here for April too. It's supposed to be warm here today, but we're flying to NJ, where it's still supposed to be cold!
ReplyDeleteMy dad always shouts at us to hold onto his car doors, I am sure he's never had any damage from wind taking the door but it could happen.
ReplyDeleteI don't salt our food either as my family always add their own.
What pretty flowers and it looks like a good trip to New York City!
Brr! That is cold with you! I am complaining about the weather today, it's grey and only 11C which is cold compared to what it has been. It's supposed to be 21C for the next few days though.
I've been having the same problem coming up with blog content lately! We're not doing much of anything and I'm running out of things to share. That 1/2 life gathering sounds like so much fun! I am right there with you on complaining about the weather-- it has been so cold and windy. We even woke up to ice this morning.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the Hodgepodge! I love NY and have lived in the 'suburbs' of the city twice so always enjoy a day spent there. I think church counts as a gathering. The half life party sounds like a clever and fun idea. Thanks for joining in the HP this week!
ReplyDeletePopcorn does always need salt and yes, why is it so cold?? I like your answer to the first question- how you've learned to say to say, I'm sorry and please forgive me. I am not, honestly, not that good at the latter and need to work to improve in that area.
ReplyDeleteHello and welcome to Hodgepodge. It is such a good lesson to say sorry and please forgive me. Sounds like you've enjoyed a lot of travels with your family. That is so nice. Do you live in Great Britain? Happy day to you.
ReplyDeletePopcorn does need salt, definitely. Love your NYC photos - I was surprised by how much I enjoyed NYC when we visited about 10 years ago, but I'm also okay with never going back. LOL I was in Ontario kind of passing through on the weekend and last Monday and I thought it was colder than it should be in April. It's too cold here as well. Welcome to the Hodgepodge and I hope you're having a great week!!
ReplyDeleteOh you have to cook with salt!! Adding it during cooking does something different than just adding it at the end. I do both anyway. Iodine is good for your brain, or so I tell myself, of course no one in my family has issues with cholesterol.
ReplyDeleteI am ready to actually put my winter coat away!
