The Rest Of My March Reading

I managed to read quite a few books in the last half of March. I really liked some of them, including one book I think absolutely everyone should read!

This is the fourth in a series, which I don't think I realized until I was reading it. For some reason I'm on a little bit of an Elin Hilderbrand kick right now (about five years behind everyone else) so I picked this one up. It was okay, but I probably would have liked it better had I read the other three in the series first!

I really liked this book. There was something which just really appealed to me about the story, the descriptions of the food, and the characters. I thought this was a delightful and charming book.

This book was right up my alley -- it took place over three different timelines (including World War II) and had amazing descriptions of a garden. This book made me want to go and tour a bunch of the amazing English manor gardens. I can't write too much without giving things away but this is a delightful book that I think you should read!

This book will forever change the way I think about American politics. If you only read one book I recommend this year, make it this one. There were pieces of it which were a teensy bit boring (all the details of the various wars/revolutions) but I found a lot of this book absolutely fascinating. It was my recommendation for our book club and three out of four of us really enjoyed it. I know this book will shape our conversations for years to come. I'm making Dave read this book right now because it is that good!

I decided to reread this series. It's a fun, light, Regency romance, and it's just easy reading.

This series did not end how I was expecting. It was much meatier than I'd anticipated for a series of books set (mostly) around Christmastime. I liked it, but I didn't love it.

This book was really good. I thought it was going to be a romcom but it was so much more than that, and it wasn't really a romcom. This book made me want to go to Capri and it also made me appreciate my friends. I would recommend this book.

I'm continuing my read of this series. I don't love graphic novels but I really like the story these books are telling. I do wish my kids would read them but they don't seem to have any interest in them :( Boo.

I thought this was a romcom, but it's not. It's also not quite the apocalyptic fiction I thought it might be on first reading the description. My friend thought this book was amazing but I didn't love it. Maybe it works better on audio, which is how she read it...

The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore

This was like a Hallmark movie, but in a book. It was cute and fun but I didn't love it. I will continue to read the rest of the series but it feels like this would be a good book to read on a beach.

So that completes my March reading. I've read such an eclectic mix of books thus far, this year -- novellas, lengthy novels, intense non-fiction, and light happy reads. I've got two stacks of books on my dresser waiting for me to get to them and I'm starting to feel like I need to take a weekend to just read because I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by them all!!! As Dave likes to remind me, this is all my own fault, but hey -- this is who I am. And because I can never have enough books -- what do you think I should read next?!?!?!?

  1. Completely agree with your assessment of The Summer Pact- one of my faves and may be in my top three this year- so glad you are getting into Elin! So many great reads- a few of my faves are The Blue Bistro (which is her fave too), 28 Summers and The Summer Affair :)

  2. My reading has been way down lately, I need to find something that really draws me in and I don't want to put down. I haven't found that lately. I will try to Ruth Reichl book, I liked her memoir about working at the magazine and it will prep me for Paris!

  3. My middle son made me watch the Heartstopper series on Netflix; I'm assuming he's read the series as he's my really prolific reader and knew what was going to happen long before it did. It sounds like a pretty good month of reading though; I enjoyed both those Elin books too (not my favorites but good!). I was thrown by the Summer Pact as it was nothing like I thought but I did enjoy it. I'm currently waiting for the 4th book in Gilmore's series to come in at our library.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
