Friday Favourite Moments #12

It's time for a round up of favourite moments from my week.

I have to be honest though -- the last half of this week took a bit of a nosedive. Friends of ours lost their father/Opa to cancer and I'm just so sad for them. My heart is with them and wishing I could do something to help. Although I know I can't. And then in a less heavy vein, we've had more winter this past week than we had all of December, January, and February (with more on the way) and work has been c-r-a-z-y. I've been fairly stressed at work these past few days and the next few weeks will also be hard. So yeah, it's just been ... a lot... this week. And it's all coupled with the realization that in a month my frustrations should mostly have disappeared but my friends will still be grieving their loss. So really my frustrations -- pretty minor in the grand scheme of things.

Okay, so given all that, what did I appreciate this past week?

1) Cat versus Cucumber videos

Yes, you read that right. Sam introduced us to this concept after I introduced my family to the skateboarding turtle. Yes, you read that right too. We laughed a lot the evening we watched these. You can see the skateboarding turtle here and the "cat versus cucumber video" here.

2) Can-struction

I will be blogging about this eventually but until then, enjoy these pictures. It was really fun again this year!

left: a combine harvesting wheat (of course I loved the Saskatchewan inspired one!);
right: a bridge

3) Weekly Time with Janice

At one point I think I blogged about the fact that Tim and Janice moved to The States for a few months this past fall. Since they've been back in town, Janice and I have been spending a couple of hours together every weekend. We talk, drink tea, go for walks, and sometimes cook and bake. It's been so great to have weekly time with her again! And it's definitely a favourite in my week when it happens!

4) Our St Patrick's Day meal

I had to improvise on our St Patrick's Day meal since I couldn't find beefless tips (vegetarian beef) anywhere. So I made Irish Soda Bread and a Vegetable Guinness Stew. Rachel contributed green chocolate chip cookies to our menu and it felt very festive!

And those are my Friday favourite moments for this week. It's short and sweet and hopefully next week will have a few more.

  2. Hang in there! I feel you about empathizing with someone else's grief. It does put things in perspective, but we can still feel overwhelmed by our own things! The snow is coming down here now!!

  3. I am so sorry to hear that your week has been so stressful! I feel like even though we have had some really great moments and memories for this year that this whole year has felt more stressful than any I can remember recently... we've had a few family losses, illnesses, injuries, and lots of college drama going on. BUT I still try to focus on those favorite moments anyway and hang on to them. I am so sorry to read about your friend's loss and all the wintery yuck.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
