Renovation Report Week 19

So this is what happened in our renovation the week of March 9. We were told that the renovation might be done by the end of this week. Spoiler alert: It was close, but not quite complete.

We came home on Monday and the dishwasher was installed!!! This was an exciting day. Spoiler alert #2: We haven't actually used it yet!!! Hahaha! We kept all our plastic dishes out to get through the renovation and so we don't have enough dishes to bother running it as we don't want to put plastic in it. Once we get our glass dishes back, this thing will get a lot of use.
Our drinking water tap was also reinstalled. Dave, especially, was so happy it was no longer under the sink. Also, we decided to not buy a new one but now it looks kind of grungy in our new kitchen. Oh well.
More painting happened in the living room...
... and we were super happy to see that racks were installed in our closet. We didn't know we were getting those and had been looking at closet organizer systems. I'm glad to be able to check that off our list!
Our room got another coat of paint (and the closet doors were reinstalled)...

... and the area outside the powder room and the basement rooms got a first coat of paint. These are actually three different shades of blue!!!

The basement shower doors were installed.
They also painted the basement stairwell.
On Tuesday our home EV charger was installed. This was not originally part of the reno but we added it in as it was something we wanted to do anyways.
Sam's bedroom and bathroom got painted, and I think this is the day the lights started working downstairs.
More views of Sam's painted room and the painted hallway downstairs.
The microwave got installed.
Wednesday was about a lot of second coats of paint but they took the floor protector out of the powder room!!!
They also covered up everything so they could spray all the trim in the basement.
They also, once again, removed all the basement doors to spray the trim.
This was also around the time we discovered they had kindly primed Rachel's room for us (except for one spot where we had something affixed to the wall).
Floor covering off in our room!!!
Floor covering off in the living room!!!
They found more spots to fix in the hallway.
They realized they'd never painted the ceiling in the old office so did that but then had to fix where the ceiling paint got on the walls.
Flooring covering off in the basement. You can see the handrail in the photo in the middle, still not installed.
Our closet rods/shelves are all hung.
Basement stairs (mostly) covered.

So this is where things stood when we left on our trip -- everything needed to be cleaned, the last stair needed its covering, a few spaces needed to be painted, and the basement handrail and Sam's bathroom mirror needed to be installed.

Learnings from the week:

Painting takes a long time and it's hard to get photos of the process.

Things sometimes need to be repainted. Even if we couldn't see the "flaws" the experts clearly could.

Don't forget about ceilings!

You need to have the right dishes available to run a dishwasher!!!

Flooring for the stairs is one of the last things to happen. And then you can't walk on them for about 24 hours (which is only a problem if your laundry room is downstairs and you're heading out on vacation...)

Again, the renovation is almost, but not quite, complete. There are still a few small things to happen so tune in next week for another update :)

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
