The Beginning Of The End

This is my baby. This is my baby who has gone down for nap time and bedtime without a bottle for a week.
This is my baby who insists on going to bed with about fifteen books every night. I don't understand how she can be comfortable in her crib with all those board books in there!
This is my baby who is growing up way too fast for my liking. Before I know it she will be off to university without looking back. I'm not ready for this.

Yes, it was my impetus to get rid of the bottle because I felt like it was time. Next to go is the soother. This is the paradox of parenting -- you want to teach your children to be independent but you also want them to stay small forever. Sadly, you can't have it both ways and you can't hold them back. But that doesn't mean you accept the changes gracefully. At least, I don't always succeed :)

  1. She's still so stinkin' cute....even without her bottle. And as for the books...well...that warms every inch of my heart.

    1. Thanks Bekah! She'll be even cuter without the soother!

And I'm pretty sure she gets the book thing from me which is why I love it so much :)

  2. Awwww...that cracks me up with all those books in there!! That was probably me as a child. :) Maybe get her a Kindle? Hahaha.

  3. Way to go Rachel on being a big girl! I know how hard it is. We're in the same stage with Karsyn now. I'm kind of sad that my last baby is growing up so fast too!

  4. Yay for little girls who love to read (I was one of those too)! I would read myself to sleep every night. I have some great books that Rachel can read when she is old enough, and I have already passed on some of my favorites to my niece, Emma. She is an avid reader of my favorite childhood book series and actually wants to dress like the character who lived in the early 1900s in the mountains of NC. Haha! But yes, I hate that our babies are growing up too fast. It is a real paradox! Sigh.

  5. So sweet--I love all the books in her bed! C still takes a bottle at nap/bedtime, but it is just water, so I'm not too worried about it.
There is so much bittersweetness in the growing up!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
