Make Hay Do Laundry While The Sun Shines

So one of the things, among the things I was really excited about regarding our new house was the laundry line. I love hanging clothes outside and it just hasn't been possible in a really long time. But this house came with four long laundry lines. However I am discovering a few things about hanging laundry outside which I now offer for your thoughts and consideration.
1) Our new washer holds a very large amount of laundry. This is all from one load.
2) Hanging laundry outside makes me feel like a 50s housewife. Now I just need to be wearing an apron, high heels, a nice dress and a string of pearls.
3) We need more clothespins STAT.
4) You have to pay attention to the weather. For instance, today is a good laundry day. Saturday and Sunday won't be.
And on that note, I'm off to do more.

  1. I have always wanted to have a clothes line. I grew up hanging clothes outside...like you say in the 50's...without the pearls however!!! :)
Blessings on your new house and may you spend many wonderful years-to-come raising your family there!!

  3. This reminds me of the time Amanda and I lived in Spain and our "host mom" would do our laundry and hang it to dry in the middle of the apartment complex. We had lots of colorful underwear between the 2 of us, and it was always proudly displayed for all to see!

But I remember our clothes always feeling very stiff afterwards - how do you keep them from feeling like that??

  4. Oh my! I'm not sure how I feel about hanging clothes out to dry. I think it would be very problematic this summer with all the rain we've had, and I think in general it would be problematic here because of the intense heat and many bugs in the summer. However, I love the nostalgic feeling of this post for the "good ol' days." Enjoy all the glories of home ownership! :-)

  5. How fun! I've never really done that before. I'm getting to the point where I wear an apron a lot during the day, so your comment about that made me giggle!

  6. I have never had a clothes line or done this, but sometimes I pass by a house that does and inevitably it's raining and their clean laundry is getting soaked. Haha. Also...kinda like Allison's comment...do you hang your 'unmentionables' (NOW who's a 50s housewife?) for all the world to admire, or do you save those for the dryer?

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
