And Then Some Days I'm Super-Mom...

Edited on May 2, 2014 to add: I'm linking this post to Kelly's Korner "Show Us Your Kids' Lunches" today. Ever since I made the original 'egg carton lunch' (shown near the bottom of this post) as they're called around here, Sam and Rachel have asked for them about every two weeks or so. They LOVE them! Sometimes I think it just takes a different presentation for kids to eat the same old things :)

So today has been going really well. As opposed to Monday when it took an hour and a half to get Sam fed and dressed with much protesting, screaming and crying, today we were all dressed, fed and out of the house in forty-five minutes. Whoo hoo!!! (And no, don't ask me what the difference was because I have absolutely no clue.) I'm almost scared to jinx it by writing about it but, since the rest of the day should be easier, I'll risk it! First of all, a certain little person in our house is having a birthday. Yes, exactly 104 weeks ago today, Rachel was born at 5:33pm (MST). So even though her birthday isn't until Monday, we have some getting ready to do.
Rachel and I at 6:59pm on Friday, June 17, 2011.

That would explain why, Sam, Rachel and I were out the door at 9:15am today, and after a stop at Tim's for Timbits (doughnut holes) for the kids, and coffee/hot chocolate for me, we headed off to get gas and go to Zehr's and Costco. We managed to get home at 11:15am (did I mention today has been going really well?!?!) and our fridge currently looks like this:
I am so excited about the theme for Rachel's birthday, and thanks to Pinterest, I have some exciting plans. I can't wait to share them with you all, which I will probably do on Sunday night, after her party :)

Speaking of Pinterest, around Easter I pinned this idea:

I thought it looked like fun. But given how life happens I didn't get around to actually doing it. (That my friends, is the major problem with Pinterest -- so much fun to pin ideas, so complicated to actually put the plans into action. Which is why I created a board called "Pin-ished" (original title I know!) to motivate myself to actually do some of the things I've pinned.) Anyways... at lunchtime Sam was claiming he wasn't hungry and, since we had some extra time, I said, "I have an awesome idea!" (Hint: always play up a new thing as an "exciting, awesome idea" and it's guaranteed to go over well. With young kids, that is.) So I asked Sam to get me some of his plastic Easter Eggs and I created this (I think the original pin was probably healthier!), all the while raving about how great it was going to be:
Sam was thrilled, as you can see below.
And when he was done eating, his lunch looked like this. Yep, he wasn't all that hungry, I guess :) (And the egg carton is wet because Sam thought it would be a good idea to clean out the eggs after he was done eating the food. Which would have been super helpful if there hadn't been holes in the bottom of each egg. Thankfully we're almost done with another carton of eggs!)
So now I have to eat lunch, water my plants, fold a load of laundry, put 263 pictures into photo albums, pick out pictures for Rachel's birthday "2", wash dishes and water my plants. All in the next hour and fifteen minutes, before I have to go pick up Sam from preschool. Thankfully I stayed up late last night finishing season one of Gilmore Girls so I no longer have to be distracted by that :)

Tonight we're going to watch Tessa run a mile (more about that tomorrow) and then we're going to Target!!! I'm so excited, I am practically bouncing :) And the Target which will be closest to us (a five minute drive as opposed to twenty-five minutes away) opens in July!!! Yay!!!

Hours of sleep last night: 6.5 (Blame Gilmore Girls. I am.)
No snacking last night.
No new gym visits to report.

  5. Glad you had a smooth day! Judging by the success of the egg food project, I may have to try this for Evan (our child who takes forever to finish a meal and has to be constantly "encouraged" the whole time). Happy early birthday to Rachel! Can't wait to read about the party!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
