Things You Should Read

I don't usually do a whole post of just links but there are some things I've run across on the internet lately that I think you should look at, think about, and discuss. And in one case, vote for.

Angie Smith from Bring The Rain has been doing a blog series on the sub-text of what our words and actions say to our kids. Sometimes it's like she's looking into my life and writing about it. And not in a good way. Read this post about rushing and pausing and this post about our kids and and how are interactions with them are affected by social media.

My blog friend, Erika of Something Beautiful, wrote this amazing post on infertility that made me sob. And E of E, Myself and I, where it first appeared as a guest post, has nominated it for a BlogHer Voices of the Year. Go here if you feel led to vote for Erika's post after reading it.

And my friend Sherry at The Sweet Life of the Reeses posted this about stay at home moms and their job titles. And again, it made me think. Being a stay at home parent is such an important job. Why do we, as a larger society, not appreciate it? Why do I always hesitate when people ask what I do?

And in case you haven't run across Beth Moore's post on What Would You Look Like? go and read it. It really emphasizes that we all have different tasks in the the Kingdom of God and they aren't better or worse than anyone else's, they are just different.

Is there anything you've read lately that you want to share?

PS. I'm about a month away from my 1000th post and Dave and I have been discussing it a bit. He thinks it should be random and not anything special, but I feel like it's a bit of a blog-iversary, or something like that and should be Meaningful! Extraordinary! Etc. What do you think I should write about? Should I even mark it as a special event?

  2. If you feel like marking your 1000th post as a special event, go for it! You could do a recap of your top 10 favorite/most popular posts, or a giveaway, or whatever else your heart desires :)

  4. Silly, my blog post doesn't belong with those, but I'm glad it encouraged you...even if it did come from a non-stay-at-home mom. Thanks for sharing these posts! I loved Erika's post and always wish I knew the right thing to say to friends in her situation. Infertility always weighs heavy on my mind, but I have read some pretty uplifting stories that have come from such situations too. I have a big heart for adoption (and I know you do too). I say do whatever feels right for your 1000th...definitely a big accomplishment. :-)

  5. Aw, thanks, friend!! I can't believe you're so close to 1000!! You should give away $1000! Or do 1,000 acts of kindness! Or 1,000 push-ups!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
