How'd You Do January???

Last night my blog friend Erika wrote a post about January's score. She got the idea from a blog friend of hers, Christen. And then I spent way too much time reading Christen's blog and well... you get the picture. Anyways, the idea is that you add up events in January, give them a score and then you have something tangible to compare the rest of the year too. Maybe I'll have to do this every month. So here, in no particular order, is January's score.

Got over being really sick +5
Sam pooped on the potty for the first time ever (and has continued to do so -- can you say HUGE strides to maybe he won't wear diapers forever) +7
No butterflies landed on me at The Butterfly Conservatory -2
The weather has either been cold or warm or yucky (I HATE KW winters. The extremes between the low and high temps has been 30C (54F)). -5
Threw a surprise party for Dave +6
Had to plan a fake party to keep the surprise party a surprise -2
I've been having fun taking pictures with our new DSLR camera +5
Didn't get to celebrate Dave's birthday on the actual day -3
Our church's Winter Retreat +9
I got an awful score in bowling (I got beat by a seven year old, people!) -2
I sewed a dress for Rachel (with a lot of help from my friends!) +3
We put an offer in on the "perfect house" but it failed the building inspection. (A whole lot of work for a whole lot of nothing and now we're back to the drawing board.) -10
I made a plan with a friend for accountability and actually worked out seven times this month. Plus I've stopped my post-dinner snacking habit. Whoo me!!! +6
I took one of my favourite pictures ever of Rachel. Makes me laugh every time I look at it! (In the linked post the picture is right at the bottom right before the two comparison pictures!) +2

So the total score for January is 21 which isn't a bad score, I guess. I actually thought it would be higher since January seemed like a pretty good month overall. February, what are you gonna bring?!?!

(And if you decide to use this idea let me know so I can read yours. Thanks!)

  1. Awww, you had some great moments, but I know the disappointments do sometimes overshadow those and make the "score" look not so good. Being sick and not getting the dream house "yet" (I didn't know about the offer, but I am super excited for your search...keep us posted on that one) are big negatives that just drain the fun. Glad you have lots of good memories too! I always say at the end of a year, I really only remember all the great memories even though I might feel the disappointments on a daily basis in one way or another. Celebrate the good times! :-)

  2. That's a great score! Way to go, January! Sorry to hear about the house falling through. In my opinion, everything relating to home-buying is pretty much miserable and extremely NOT like what HGTV leads you to believe it should be like!!

  3. Clever idea, and 21 sounds like a good score to me!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
