June Reading

Okay, I have one last big book catch up post and then I'll get back to posting my reading recaps more regularly. This post covers every book I read in June.

This was one of my favourite kinds of novels -- quirky characters coming together in a heartwarming way. I just really loved it all. It was a little sad but mostly just really sweet.

Again, I really love Abby Jimenez and I read a lot of her books in April, May, and June. Even though I'd read this one before, it still stood up well to a re-read.

I did not love this book. I feel like most of McFadden's books are good mysteries/suspense novels but I felt like this one fell short.

This was my book club book for June. I'd read it quite a few years ago, and really enjoyed it at that time. It did not stand up well to a re-read. I wasn't as sucked in by the magical world of it (not actual magic, just a beautiful world) nor the story line. And I really did not remember how it ended and I was surprised by it, but not in a good way. My lesson is: don't re-read books that you thought were amazing twenty years ago! Hahaha!

loved this book. It was so good. I LOVED learning about Bishop's life, her history, just all of it. I read this in one sitting and I know it will be one of my favourite books of the year!

Rachel picked this book up for me at the library. "It's about flowers, Mom, you should like it." And yes, I should have liked it but there was something about it I just couldn't quite get into. I don't know what it was but I thought it was just okay.

Again, this was the first of a series by Elin Hilderbrand, but the last one I had to read, and I just didn't love it. You won't see me read any more books by her in the coming months.

This is what I was reading the last few stressful weeks of working in June -- books I enjoy from the In Death series which seem to be all my brain can process during stressful times at work.

I really enjoyed this book, which surprised me because I really, really liked the first one and this book had a lot to live up to.

I think my expectations for this book were too high. I know so many people loved it and I just didn't. I read about half of it, put it down for a few weeks, and then read the other half of it. For some reason, it just didn't grab me like I'd expected.

I thought this book was good but again, it wasn't my favourite. I found the story intriguing so that kept me engaged; I think I was just expecting a little more from it.

So that finishes up my reading for the first six months of the year. On Goodreads, I chose a challenge of 150 books for 2025. However, by the end of June, I'd read 98. So yesterday I upped my challenge to 175 for the year. I'm still ahead of where I need to be in my challenge, but I'm keeping it where it's at. Fall is always a stressful, busy time both for me, and my family, so I don't know how much reading I'll get done in these next six months.

Thanks again for reading all the long reading recap posts these past few weeks. Hopefully you've found some interesting books to add to your list.

June total: 13

2025 total: 98

  4. I am still waiting for the audio version of The Third Gilmore Girl to be available through our library. I want to read it so bad but think I'll just love it so much more hearing it.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
