Monthly Musings: Kicking Off Summer

I never post on Sunday night but I've been trying to write this post since Thursday morning and I didn't want to miss linking up with Holly who blogs at Pink Lady and Patty who blogs at Good, Better, Best for their Monthly Musings. Especially since we're talking about summer, and I could use some summer right now! Yes, we're under a frost warning again tonight. I'm never going to get my annuals planted :( Okay, on with happier thoughts... Summer!

1) What you are looking forward to most this summer?

I'm most looking forward to our summer vacation and Rachel has a big event happening this summer! I'm also looking forward to slower days at home and getting lots of reading done out in the back yard. 

2) Any favourite summer traditions?

I love our strawberries and ice cream for breakfast on the first day without school/work tradition. This will be our tenth year to do it. With teenagers, it's turned into more of a "strawberries and ice cream for brunch" tradition but I still love it.

3) Any summer travel plans? Please dish.

 

We are so excited to be going to Europe again!!! As soon as we returned from our vacation in 2022, Sam said, "Next time we go to Europe can we go to (I'm not sharing the destination yet!) and ask (I'm not sharing our other travelling companions yet!) to come with us?" So Sam invited the people, picked the destination, and has planned the trip! It's been fun to see what he's interested in, and to remind him that the other people on the trip need to have fun too! Some things have changed from his original dream due to circumstances beyond our control, but we're still very excited!!!

4) How do you red, white, and blue?

I'm changing this to how do I "red and white" since I'm Canadian. On July 1 this year we're heading to a Jays game and hoping to score this giveaway -- the Jays wear red uniforms on certain occasions, including Canada Day! So I'll be repping red and white, assuming we get there early enough! 

 

5) Beach, lake, or pool?

This year we gave up our pool membership. We just haven't used it enough the past few years so we let it go. We love a good beach day and I'm hoping we'll get to hit a couple of the Great Lakes this summer. I'm not sure we'll get to an ocean this year but if we do, I'll be really happy!!!

6) Favourite summer treat?

Do you even have to ask?!?!? Ice cream, of course! 

 

7) Favourite sunscreens and self-tanners?

I'm very bad at using sunscreen and I never use a self-tanner. 

8) Best flip flops or sandals?

I don't really wear flip flops or sandals except as my indoor shoes. My current flip flops are from Ardene and I've had them for a couple of years. I really love them.

9) How are you staying fit this summer?

Full disclosure: When I first read this question, I saw it as, "How are you staying lit this summer?" and I could not come up with an answer. Rachel's response was, "You're not, Mom!" All that is to say, I will have a much easier time responding to how I'm staying fit this summer! Hahahahaha!!!

I will be doing a lot of walking... 

... although not in as an exotic location as Scotland like last summer!

We will be doing some biking...

...and I'm hoping to get some disc golf in with Dave.

10) Favourite summer themed movies?

I don't tend to watch a lot of movies. In the summer, if I'm watching something, it's probably baseball. Does the Home Run Derby count as a summer movie because I'll for sure watch that!!!

So that's how we're kicking off summer. I'm excited that we only have 19 days left of school (and I only have 21 days left of work) before we're in full summer mode over here.
