When The Internet Dies On Your Birthday

So yesterday was my birthday. Normally you would have had the opportunity to read a blog post from Dave but we've been having internet issues off and on since Thursday night and, on Monday night, our internet died completely. So Dave has told me he will write that post for tomorrow.

So what do you do when it's cold and rainy, you have no internet (so you can't work from home), and it's your birthday?
So first of all, I have to clarify that Rachel was way more excited about my birthday than I was! She's been making numerous cards over the past month and the surprise was which card she would choose to give me on the actual day. The card she chose has a gazillion polka dots and a cake with 45 candles. It was pretty hilarious!

She also wanted to bring me breakfast in bed, which we compromised on coffee-hot chocolate in bed because I am not a breakfast person. And she made me a birthday crown, which I have to admit, was pretty awesome! She even glued some jewels which had fallen off one of her headbands onto it.
Since I was stuck at home for the morning waiting for the first internet person of the day, and I didn't want to clean (after all, it was my birthday), and I couldn't sit outside in the sun and read or work in the yard, I needed to find things to do inside. So first I updated our calendar.

I bought this calendar at the World's First Target last year and it's been a great way for all of us to know what our family schedule is. We each have our own colour and this way we can see everything for the month at once.

Rachel got the owl chalkboard from Tim and Janice for Christmas and every month she updates it with a themed picture. This is a "blossom tree," as she calls it, because all the trees in our city are in bloom right now.
Then I spent some time organizing my desk area in the office. I love organizing and tidying so it was exciting to turn chaos into a semblance of neatness!

After that the internet guy had dropped off a new modem, which was supposed to fix our problem. Needless to say, it didn't. After 45 minutes on the phone with our internet provider, and explaining that I couldn't work from home without internet, and oh yeah, it was also my birthday, and crying, they promised to send someone over later that night.
So I continued my non internety fun by cutting teacups out of napkins for a project I'm working on.
I ate some South Georgia Caviar and read my book. Lilac Girls is not the most cheery read ever but it's really good, and it's due tomorrow, so I had to get some reading in.
I headed out for lunch and picked up my favourite FetAvocado sandwich which I ate while reading some more.
Starbucks provided me with my free birthday drink and Internet access. Yay! (Thank you to everyone who sent me messages on Instagram and Facebook, by the way! When I could access them, they made my day.)
We had homemade pizza for supper. I LOVE homemade pizza. And during supper the internet guy came and FIXED OUR INTERNET!!!
Just in time too because my evening plan had been to watch the Blue Jays game and drink a Coke float. It was a lovely evening of baseball and floats. Except the game was too depressing to watch (the Jays lost 11-5 and the Yankees had about seven home runs), so I ended up going to bed early.

And that is how I spent my Internet-less birthday. In the end, it ended up being a pretty good day. And today I have internet, the sun is shining, and laundry is hanging on the line. Even though it's not my birthday, it's going to be a good day!

  1. That sounds like a pretty great birthday to me! I love the idea of different activities in different color on the calendar. Oliver doesn't have any activities yet and Aaron is pretty limited but when they get older I can see it being very helpful!

  3. Oh man, I would be disappointed if the internet was out on my birthday! Or I would use it as an excuse to spend the entire day at Starbucks and/or other establishments with free Wifi. Glad you made the most of it though and that it had a happy ending!

Oh and I read Lilac Girls earlier this year - it was so long but so good!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
