Sightings Of Summer

So this past weekend was the Victoria Day Weekend in Canada, unofficially known as the kickoff to summer. Although the weather was not as warm as it could have been, there were some summery happenings abounding. Sadly, on Saturday I was feeling a little under the weather, so catching up on the archives of my blog friend Allison was a perfect way to spend a lot of lazy time. After reading her blog, when I found myself at a Starbucks I absolutely had to try a caramel frap, my first one ever. However, you may see more than one picture of me with one of these this summer because It. Was. Yummy!!!
If you read yesterday's post, you will remember that our care group helped us move a play centre to our backyard. Then we fed them supper. Then we had to wash (by hand) all the dishes. That was less rewarding than waking up yesterday morning and seeing the play centre in our yard!!!
If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen a picture I posted of a package of strawberries and raspberries which my mom and dad sent to Sam. I planted the strawberries and all the yellow raspberries yesterday. I'm hoping to get the red ones in the ground today before the rain starts.
For the past two years we've had a tradition of working with Tim and Janice in their yard for a Spring day and yesterday was that day. I biked over with Sam and Rachel, and Dave ran over. His bike is getting a Spring tune-up right now. I weeded a bed, planted some window boxes, acquired some of Janice's extra plants, and accidentally replanted a bleeding heart. Oops!
Dave edged a bed and helped Tim divide hostas. Rachel helped Dave with edging the bed.
Sam and Rachel played with Willem and Tessa and had a frozen yogurt bar break. I love that the kids were there for about four hours and we interacted with them for maybe ten minutes! They really enjoyed playing and hanging out!
Dave showing off the nicely divided and spaced hostas!
I may not have mentioned on the blog yet that we have joined a neighbourhood pool association this summer. Sadly, the pool is not in our neighbourhood so I will be biking there with the kids A LOT. It is, however, about a ten minute walk from Tim and Janice's. Yay! We know lots of people who are members there and I am excited to spend some of our summer days hanging out. Last night was the opening BBQ.
Sam and Rachel had good vantage points to watch the bike parade.
Sam was checking out where he will take swimming and tennis lessons this summer. Rachel will take swimming lessons, and since I need to go in with her, I'm really hoping for some warm summer days! Yay!

After all these summery sightings, I am really looking forward to our summer. We have a lot of fun stuff planned and I can't wait to get started. First though, I have some more plants to get in the ground...

  1. I love your Victoria day tradition. How fun! The pool is going to be so nice for this summer. We've been debating putting a small pool up in our back yard or just buying passes to the local pool. I'm ready for a fun summer. I'm hoping we all get over these sickies soon and can enjoy some warm weather.

  4. We have a neighbourhood pool a few doors down and I LOOOOOVED it growing up. Always lots of the same kids around to make friends with and fun things going on. Your whole family will love it... that is, if it ever actually gets warm enough to swim! I'm beginning to have my doubts!

    1. I've been loving our nice weather but we definitely haven't had many swimming days yet. In fact, we haven't gone at all thus far. I'm hoping soon it will be warm enough to go.

  6. I love caramel frappuccino too! Although lately I've been more obsessed with their sweet tea passion lemonade and also order them instead. Although I may need to make time for a frappuccino as well this summer!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
