Currently: November 2025

It's the first Wednesday in November which means it's time for "Currently" with Jenn at My Joyful Life. This is a very mixed up edition of "Currently" covering a few different things -- kind of like my life at this moment :)

[loving]

I am "loving" our community who has been so supportive during this renovation preparation time. My school staff has been saving boxes for me, our neighbours are storing filled boxes for us, and my friend came over for two hours on Sunday, with her van, to help us move everything. People have offered to make us meals when we're without a kitchen. During a part of the renovation, we will be without a shower for a few weeks. When I've mentioned this to people, everyone has offered us a place to shower. Seriously our community is so generous.

I am also "loving" my flowers from the flower brunch I participated in on Sunday. As you will see under "thankful for," I was a little distracted during this one so didn't get many pictures. However, it was a nice morning with friends and I have been enjoying my flowers.

[looking forward to]

Now that the reno has started, I'm "looking forward to" coming home every day and seeing the changes. I know eventually the changes will be less dramatic but right now, there's something big every day.

Goodbye play room!

[smelling]

I don't know what I'm "smelling" lately. Surprisingly, I'm not smelling construction dust (yet) so I'm thankful for that!

[preparing for]

We spent so much time "preparing for" the renovation that I'm happy to take a short break. However, there are still a few rooms to pack up and we have to think about how to live without a kitchen for awhile so we're "preparing for' that!

[thankful for]

Here's where this post takes a somber turn. Rachel left very early on Sunday morning for a three day, Grade 9 school trip. A few hours later, Dave got a text from her saying, "The other bus crashed. I'm ok, I'm not on that bus. Everyone on the bus is okay."

It appears that the other bus driver may have had a medical emergency and the bus rolled onto its side in a ditch. Forty-two students and staff were on that bus. Thankfully, while four people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, they were all released later that day.

Sadly, the bus driver died.

I'm so sad for the family and friends of the driver and so incredibly thankful that there weren't other serious injuries and everyone was okay.

The trip was cancelled and Rachel was home a few hours later. You can imagine I hugged her so tight she got a little irritated with me. Please hold the driver's family, the kids who were on the bus, and our school community in your prayers as we process this experience. (This is also why I wasn't fully present at my flower brunch as I got the news halfway through the event.)

So that is what's up with us "Currently." Renovations have started and we have received yet another reminder that life is so very precious.

  1. Oh I'm so sorry to hear about the driver! Thankful that Rachel was okay - and that extra tight hug was totally warranted.

  7. OMG, I heard about that bus accident, so crazy that Rachel was on that trip too. I can't imagine the fear of getting that text (also text?! C'mon Rachel, maybe this warrants a phone call! hah) and then waiting for her to get back.
Glad your house renovations are coming along.

  8. Very exciting about the house reno, and how wonderful that your community has been so generous about offering meals and invitations to shower!
That's so sad and scary about the bus accident. So sad that the driver passed away, and prayers for the family. Really your daughter's text should have LED with "I'm okay, I'm safe" before the other news! But we don't always compose the best possible message when we're shaken. Anyway, grateful that Rachel was indeed safe, and that there were no serious injuries to others.

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
