Learning Some History

One of the things I wanted to do for Mother's Day (yes, we're back to Mother's Day here!) was to do a tour of our city's uptown. The local library has put together a walking tour with houses of historical interest on it. I thought it would be fun to discover more about some of them.

This past Thursday night was a beautiful evening and we had no other plans so we grabbed Starbucks fraps for everyone and headed off. We really enjoyed finding the places and learning some of their history. There is whole other half of the tour we didn't get to so we're looking forward to going out and finishing it sometime.
It was really interesting to see some of the different architectural styles around our uptown and also to see how the kids did with what was basically a lot of walking and hearing about history. They both enjoyed taking pictures and Sam enjoyed finding the house numbers we were looking for.
We're all looking forward to being able to finish the rest of the tour when we're able to do so. Between all the rain in June, and the busyness of celebrating Rachel's birthday and the end of school, we might have to wait awhile. But that just gives us something to look forward to!

  1. What a great idea!! I love that! I did a walking tour of downtown Indianapolis a couple of years ago with one of my friends, but I've never seen such a thing in a town closer to home. GREAT idea!!

  2. How much fun! I would love to do something like this. Our downtown area is comprised of all historic buildings. The girls' dance and the art studio are both in older buildings. I love looking at the architecture.

  6. I love historical old homes and businesses. Just wait until you read my post about our tour of New Bern because it has over 300 years of history and buildings. It is a wonderful historical city to explore. :-)

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
