"I Have The Control"

6) Fly an airplane.
(Dave is likely going to give me this experience for my birthday. I can't wait!!!)

Yes, today I had my first (and likely, only) flight lesson. I did not fly during take off or landing but I did fly for about ten minutes once we were out of the air traffic control space. Flying a plane is hard!!! There is no road for handy following, or for keeping you straight. Or level. I flew pretty jerkily at first, similar to a roller coaster car. Flying is all about making a lot of little adjustments, continuously. Plus there is just way more to think about because planes can come at you from any direction. I kept forgetting to shoulder check when I would turn the plane :)

Anyways, there are no pictures of me actually flying because my instructor (who was awesome) needed to concentrate of the seventy million plane instruments. And also on what I was doing. And the blog title is how you switch piloting control from one person to another. My instructor would say, "You have the control" and then I would respond "I have the control." (Under my breath I would add, "I think!")

So yeah, I flew a plane (a Cessna 152) today. It was pretty amazing and if you ever get the chance I would highly recommend it. This was an AWESOME birthday gift!

  5. How fun! And yes, definitely an awesome birthday gift! I've never really thought flying a plane as something I could actually do, but reading your post makes me realize there are at least opportunities for me to try it out. I just might have to look into them, since I think it'd be awfully fun to do!

Thank you for being interested in my life as I blog it and for leaving a comment. Comments make me happier than reading a good book and drinking a cold Coke. Almost :)
